Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Walkthrough - ...

You'll be out of harm's way yourself this mission, manning the guns of an aircraft high above the battle zone. You need to take out the enemies far below with three different weapons, and keep the friendly forces safe until they can be airlifted out of the danger area. If you kill any friendlies, or hit the church in the village, you'll fail the mission automatically.
You have three separate guns here, each with its own characteristics. Your view will change depending on which weapon is selected. The 105 mm canon creates the biggest explosion, capable of taking out whole groups of enemies in a single shot. It's slow to reload, and is dangerous if used anywhere near your friendlies. The 40 mm creates much more contained explosions, but can still take out multiple enemies at a time. The 25 mm is basically a machine gun, and comes with the most zoomed-in view. You'll have to switch weapons frequently, if only to keep an eye on what's going on in the various places on the ground.
You also have two different types of heat-based imaging here, basically opposites of each other. In one, hot objects will appear white; in the other, they'll be black. This is largely a matter of preference, though the blinking strobe lights that mark your friendlies seem to show up better in white-heat mode. Be sure to avoid attacking these blinking soldiers, or your mission will come to a screeching halt. Try to keep track of where your friendlies are, and where they're moving to, to avoid confusion.
The first part of the mission is basically a matter of searching the village for any and all enemy units, and taking them out with whichever gun or guns you find most useful. The first enemies will come from the truck on the road near the church, and across the field nearby, but after these first few waves, they'll appear all over the place. Watch where your friendly forces are firing, and use this to locate the enemy. A truck will come down the road at one point; take it out, then continue firing on the enemy soldiers below.
When the next set of vehicles comes up the road, leave it alone, allowing the friendlies to commandeer the trucks. Hold your fire as the trucks make their way up the road. Watch for enemy ambush positions, and take them out before the friendlies arrive. Keep the trucks safe, including from yourself, until they reach the junkyard. There, defend the friendlies from the large waves of enemies, until the evacuation helicopters arrive, and the troops can be safely transported away.
